This piece was originated in a challenge; to create a piece themed in “calm” where I didn’t start it until in a place of calm, and only work on it while feeling calm. Hmmm … what does calm feel like? There’s calming the thoughts, but like the ocean, the surface of the water may be calm, but what lies beneath the surface? The hymn in the sky was something I had written out on the paper I had originally sketched the boat on. One day, I saw the first “Wh” in the top left and just traced them out in black. Then I realized that I was committed to an enormous challenge: writing the whole hymn out without making a mistake!
